Currently tutoring 5th grade boy in reading comprehension and social studies- able to provide reference from parents upon request. I have volunteered as a Literacy Tutor at Ridgeview Elementary in Liberty, Mo. Both my mother and grandmother were teachers. I also nanny, so I spend a lot of time interacting with children. I would like to be a tutor because I believe I am good at it, I enjoy helping other people succeed, and I could use the extra income.

Hobbies
My basic philosophy is "work hard and have fun". I try to make my lessons enjoyable, and am know to make bizarre analogies. I also try to challenge my pupils without frustrating them, meeting them where they are at and and pushing them to try their best. I give a lot of praise and affirmation, but am not a fan of giving rewards. I expect my pupils to respect me and my time by giving me their full attention. While I will help those with genuine questions (and encourage my pupils to ask questions!) I am not there to do the pupil's thinking for them. I understand frustration, but have a low tolerance for laziness. I am a very enthusiastic, energetic instructor, who tries to be engaging and approachable.
